Excellence & Authenticity

Extend
For this topic, we will be looking more closely at how to effectively embed digital citizenship into two specific subjects in the Australian Curriculum -Visual Arts and Health & Physical Education.
Visual Arts
We know what you’re thinking. Visual Arts + digital citizenship = An art lesson in which students create a piece of art about digital citizenship! While this is certainly one way to combine the two subjects, there are other strategies for using technology to enhance art lessons whilst embedding digital citizenship skills and behaviours. There are also a range of tools to support art creation and effective student collaboration, which is essential for students working with other people locally and from around the world. The accompanying video explains in more detail how to embed digital citizenship into Visual Arts to provide authentic learning experiences for your students.

Health & Physical Education
Before beginning this module, you would be forgiven for thinking that the only way to integrate digital citizenship into the Health and PE curriculum is through the teaching of cyber safety and mental health and well being. There are definitely many well known resources to support this area. However, there are an abundance of other ways we can integrate digital citizenship into the Health and PE curriculum. Integrating digital technologies into lessons is the most obvious choice. General storytelling/creation apps such as Chatterpix Kids and Toontastic 3D can be used to consolidate and share students' learning. There are hundreds of ways teachers around the world are using technology including apps, trackers, virtual classes and websites in their physical education classes. However, digital technologies are not always vital to the teaching and learning of digital citizenship through a Key Learning Area as long as teachers foster regular discussion about digital citizenship. In this short video, follow Jane's journey as she learns to use a variety of resources to hack Health and PE learning outcomes in order to integrate digital citizenship into her lessons, whether she uses digital technologies or not!
